The Vanuatu Beach Volleyball teams will be hitting the competition sand at their two upcoming major events in very specially designed uniforms.

Designer, Charlene Turner, is the daughter of a ni-Vanuatu mother and an Australian father, born and raised in Vanuatu, before moving to Brisbane.

Having studied and worked in the fashion industry, graduating with a Diploma of Applied Fashion Design, Turner has a strong belief in the importance of culture and story telling through design, using patterns and colours that are deeply rooted in her Pacific heritage.

When she agreed to design something special for the Team Vanuatu Beach Volleyball squad uniforms, for their upcoming representative events in both the Northern Marianas and in the UK, she took the opportunity to re-explore a lot of the patterns and prints that are intrinsically Melanesian, using traditional art practices such as basket weaving in the print design. The uniforms have been produced by Australian sports apparel maker Joust Sports.
